now confirmed by our mutual
friend and brother that (unknown to him)
i happened to be writing about lolo
in a larger work during the exact
and somber days he was passing
 
didn’t find out till a month later
and only days ago and been thinking
about him all week even though and terribly so
it’d been years since we’d seen each other

we still kept in touch albeit quarterly
sometimes went to yearly and then 
might have just missed one or two
of those too

it was not for lack of love
blame it on geography
and each of us refugees
of sorts

but still and always the bond
that other brother calhoun too the same
and those two, the most closely bonded 
years and years and years

sends word that at lolo’s upcoming 
memorial or funeral or celebration of life
his son is honoring his request to be
cremated and mixed with biodegradable
glue and made into a cannonball and 
shot out to sea

we
expected nothing less from the funboy
never one for the mediocre or mundane

i hope one day to finally meet
his son and that someone
at the funeral will play his
didgeridoo in his honor

maybe son will sound it off
loud and proud as the cannon
is loaded and fired

i’ll be listening
much closer than
it would appear

in hidden washington mountains or the halloween
you wore a tank of tequila on your back
posing as a ghostbuster and out to douse any
and everybody or the jane’s addiction show
or the super sonic soul pimps for that matter
then there was the infamous sonny bono ski run
or snowboard drop in off the deck and down the hill
to the jump hugging the telephone pole for a landing
right out into the middle of the busy enough street
danger on on all sides or how your ex-wife thought
we were brothers from the same mother and father
or was it just the same mother and you were going 
out with her for well over a month or maybe two
before you fessed up and told her otherwise
and when i finally finally finally catch up
with cal and humongous dougie pain they’ll only have 
a million more tales each and then some, especially calhoun
